Virus plus fluid: When an infected person coughs, sneezes or speaks, small droplets of bodily fluid containing virus may be expelled into the air. These droplets can be inhaled by someone else and cause transmission of the infection. Covering mouth and nose with a mask while in public dramatically reduces the transmission to others, as the droplets are caught in the mask.
