Persistent pain: Your pain is strongly suggesting a musculoskeletal origin, such as muscular/ intercostal strain, somewhat typical following pneumonia, pain may last up to 6-8 weeks and is superficial. Other possibilities, such as a pleural effusion, also common after lung infections, cannot be ruled out and usually a follow up X-ray is done few weeks after acute episode in order to assess for clearance.
