Atrial fibrillation: Common problem that is causes by dysfunction in the atrium of the heart. Your heart normally beats by creating an electical charge from your sinus node which is at the conjunction of the vena cava and the atrium. A signal is sent to atrial-ventricular, AV, node which then sends electrical charge to get the heart to beat. Atrial fib starts when this "electrical wire" is disrupted.
