A member asked:

How does the novel coronavirus attack the body, and why are our bodies so bad at fighting it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Coronavirus: The primary area of damage from the virus is to the lungs either by causing pneumonia or a tremendous inflammatory response which damages the lung. We are "bad at fighting it" because it is a new virus and we do not have immunity to it.
