Viral urethritis?: Painful urination and/or discharge despite antibiotic treatment suggests a strong possibility of a viral infection in your urethra. The two most common causes of viral urethritis are herpes and adenovirus. Herpes is unlikely in absense of blisters/sores of the penis, but still possible. Adenovirus is mostly a common cold virus, but can be acquired by oral sex. It clears up on its own in 1-2 weeks.
