Primary care doctor: A person with medical symptoms that are non-emergent should start with his primary care doctor, who can do an overall exam and assessment to see where the problem might be coming from. From there, tests can be ordered, and referrals might be done, such as seeing an Endocrinologist, Rheumatologist, Physiatrist, Neurologist, etc..., depending on the types of symptoms and signs found on exam.
