Information: Basal cell skin cancer rarely spreads to other parts of the body. If the cancer has recurred several times in the same location, or it invades bone or deeper strutures, it may spread. When it does spread it usually goes to the regional lymph nodes first before getting into the blood.

Spread of BCCA: Although it is very, very rare, there are case reports of metastatic (spread to other parts of the body from original site) of certain types of bcca. Most basal cell ca are limited in the area of occurrence and it has a very high cure rate after appropriate treatment. Make sure your plastic surgeon or dermatologist reviews the pathology with you and gives you regular follow up.
