Dr. or ER can check: Throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as sinusitis, EB virus, etc... Usually, one sees his primary care doctor if his sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly. "Severe" headache sounds bad and is something the ER can evaluate, along with the sore throat.
