Topical desensitizer: Assuming this is neither a heart problem or reflux of stomach acid causing esophageal symptoms (GERD), consider rib attachment to cartilage of breastplate (sternum) inflammation (costochondritis). Topical NSAIDS such as Voltaren gel; or 5% lidocaine ointment or 4% patch (both OTC in the USA) will provide relief. Injections of steroid into this cartilage can also help. Good luck.
