Doses are same but:: About 5% of people don't respond to 1st dose of mmr. The reason for the second dose is to catch those non responders & give them a chance to develop an immune response to measles, mumps and rubella too. It also appears that seeing the MMR vaccine a second time may, in fact, stimulate (somewhat) a better antibody build up in those who were able to react the first time around so 2 doses best for all.

Same: Dr lambe's answer is correct. To emphasize, the actual vaccine each time is the same.
