Uncertain: Research shows it probably wasn't pangolins (one theory) were probably not the intermediate hosts. Some have theories about snakes & turtles. The Chinese Horseshoe bat isn't a mammal -but could have been the initial step. Research will likely eventually provide an answer to this question.
