Could be a tendon,: ligament, or muscle injury. Could be arthritic issues. An exam with your doctor is very appropriate if this continues. Possibly heat treatment might give some temporary relief. Exercise is general a good thing, so get back to it, with your doctor's help if needed.

Knee pain: One of the more common causes for knee pain is irritation to the patellar tract. This can be irritation to the underside of the patella in relationship to the femur. Or strain of the infrapatellar or suprapatellar tendon. If there is no effusion or laxity that is new it would be expected for this discomfort to resolve.
