Probably not long: This is not yet known with certainty. All coronaviruses have a lipid (fatty) coating. Such viruses die quickly when they dry, and are quickly killed by all disinfectants and cleaners. Therefore, the novel coronavirus (nCoV) is unlikely to survive in the environment or on surfaces. Probably nCoV is transmitted only by direct contact or soon after coughed or sneezed into the air (like influenza).
