Doctor can examine: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics needed), a cold or influenza (Tamiflu is sometimes used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to look for strep). Throat lozenges and Tylenol or Motrin (ibuprofen) may temporarily lessen pain.

Neck pain-ER: If you have prominent neck pain and fever I would not wait , contact your PCP , or if not possible an ER visit is indicated
