Follow-up with Dr.: Upper abdominal pain can be from "acid" pains, such as a stomach ulcer, just gastritis with no ulcer, or reflux (heartburn). Sometimes there is an ulcer in the first part of the small intestine. An infection with H. pylori bacteria can lead to stomach ulcer pains. May need med changes, and continuing reevaluation. Pancreatitis, gallstones, or some cancers (rare in young people) can also occur.
