A member asked:

Ive got a black dot quite a bit smaller than that that has just appeared on the skin of my thumb on the finger. it isnt due to an injury. it is symmetrical. is it ok?

Mysterious dot?: A small, mysterious black dot on the skin of a college-aged person's thumb is usually one of those wait-and-see situations. It could be a new mole, which will not peel away. It could be temporary (for whatever reason) and thus peel away as the upper layers of skin age and shed. A video consultation on HealthTap can help figure this out. However, an in-person exam helps the most.
