A member asked:

I have been coughing for 2 weeks. started as a cold, all other symptoms gone but still coughing. how do i treat?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doctor can check to: Make sure no asthma. Cough medicines are for decreasing the urge to cough, due to tickling, mucus, or mild irritation in the throat. Coughing is desired and is needed when there is mucus lower in the throat, or coming from the lungs (otherwise, mucus might stay in the lungs). Menthol lozenges with anesthetic in the lozenge, can help. Guaifenesin with dextromethorphan decreases cough.
