About fever blisters: Fever blisters are recurrences of herpes at or near the original infection. An original infection tends to happen in childhood, and causes sores on the lips and gums, plus sometimes the nostrils and facial areas near the nose and mouth. Recurrences will happen on some of those original areas, usually on the lips. They can be treated with prescription valacyclovir or acyclovir pills.
