A member asked:

I got pricked with the needle after i administer flu vaccine to my nephew. how soon should i have to be tested with hiv, aids etc?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

First test now: It is unclear if your nephew is HIV infected, however a test at the time of exposure for baseline values is indicated, repeat test after 6 weeks, subsequent testing will depend on the type of screening test used and if co infected with Hep C. Transmission after a needle stick injury is low and will depend on type of exposure and viral burden in the infected person. Take care.
