May be an emergency: This is not an advice site, but throat symptoms can be from strep throat infection, a cold or influenza, or other causes such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if a throat problem is bothersome, recurrent or doesn't go away quickly. However, some cases of trouble swallowing and trouble coughing are life-threatening EMERGENCIES where an ambulance ride to the ER is needed.
