Watch for blood and mucus in the stool, and discuss a culture if this occurs, with your PCP. Most self limited diarrheal illnesses in this age group are caused by viral illness. Avoid dairy products, discuss a probiotic and continue the diet described. Usually there is a 10-14 day period of improvement. Continue to provide clear fluids including Pedialyte to avoid dehydration.
