Being extra safe: For a young woman who just started birth control pills a few days ago, and already is worried about taking pills off schedule, it might be safest to use condoms in addition to the pills for her first pack of pills. After this first pack, she should be protected every day regardless of where she is in her pill pack, with rare exceptions. Taking a pill 1 hour earlier or later makes no difference.
