A member asked:

What causes hyperinflation in the lungs and how to reverse it thank you ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It's physics: The millions of years it took for air-breathing creatures to evolve amazing lungs led to lungs that follow laws of physics. Even if air-breathing creatures were created overnight, they still would follow the same laws living on Earth. Air flows in and out of the tiniest lung parts called air sacs. If there is increased resistance to outflow, more air gets retained in sacs, thus hyperinflation.
