May be an emergency: Many things are in the abdomen: stomach, pancreas, liver, small intestine, gall bladder, appendix, large intestine, abdominal muscles, kidneys, etc... For "severe pain," an exam by the ER doctor can figure things out. Pain in the abdomen can be due to gallstones, pancreatitis, stomach ulcers, etc... Appendicitis, stomach flu, food poisoning, ovarian and pregnancy problems can also cause pain.
