Oral herpes: I've not heard of vigorous or extreme exercise triggering oral herpes outbreaks (cold sores), but any body-wide inflammation and maybe stress can do it. Your other symptoms are probably just due to running to exhaustion, i.e. they are not herpes symptoms. Oral herpes outbreaks are effectively treated with a single oral dose of valacyclovir; or try taking it after running to prevent an outbreak.

Listen to your body.: Your body is giving you a message- you might want to slow down your training a tad. Cold sores can occur with stress.
