My 6 year old daughter was diagnosed with walking pneumonia. shes finished her course of antibiotics. her coughing and wheezing doesnt seem any better. should i take back to the dr?

Basics: Walking pneumonia is just a convenient label for those not sick enough to need hospital care or IV antibiotics.Such an infection can trigger coughing that may persist up to a month. X-rays on kids usually remain abnormal for weeks after the primary germs have died off. If you feel she is not improved have her re-checked. If her activities & function are improving you may want to give it some time.

Post viral: Post viral inflammation may occur after a lower respiratory tract infection. A course of bronchodilators and inhaled steroids may be indicated. Please see your physician for follow up and use nasal saline to reduce post nasal drip.

Agree with Drs F&D: If she is improving, you may watch and wait. If she is not improving or still has fever, is not eating well or has lost weight, it would be prudent to go back to the doctor. Wish you and your daughter good health!
