Needs to see Doctor: A person with a high fever of 105 F almost always has an infection or some other generalized inflammation (such as an auto-immune flare-up). Some viral infections don't need treatment (but influenza is treated with Tamiflu). Bacterial infections do need evaluation and treatment. If a person looks ill and cannot see his primary care doctor, he can be seen at the ER.
