A member asked:

Doctors saying im having allergic reactions on lips but it looks like hsv1? neg for hsv 1&2 at 4.5 month and neg swab.......am i hsv free?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

HSV I and II ?'s: Herpes virus, either type I or II is a recurrent disease, and can happen repeatedly on mucus membrane surfaces. A swab will not always diagnose either, so have your physician repeat a blood test with IgG and IgM antibodies to herpes. Once infected, a herpes outbreak can occur with additional stress (work, emotional, heavy exercise, etc.).
