A member asked:

I have a mild to moderate pain on the left side of my abdomen. its roughy 3cm below my breast. the pain is made worse by laughing and breathing occasionally causes pain. could this be muscular? should i consult a doctor?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doctor can evaluate: Upper abdominal pain can be from "acid" pains, such as a stomach ulcer, just gastritis with no ulcer, or reflux (heartburn). An infection with H. pylori bacteria can lead to stomach ulcer pains (an acid blocker can help). One needs more evaluation by her primary care doctor. Heart disease, rib and cartilage problems, pancreatitis, gallstones, or sometimes cancers can cause upper abdominal pain.
