A member asked:

Please could you explain the difference between idiopatic cardiac myopathy a d heart failure ? what is the prognosis is this genetic , do i need to have my child screened ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

One issue at a time: The room for a response is limited. Each of the mentioned issues requires separate discussion. For the first issue, heart failure is a generic term that describes when the heart is failing to pump blood at an adequate rate/strength to feed all tissues properly. Idiopathic = they don't know cause. Cardiomyopathy= disease causing damage to the heart muscle.
