Hiccups: Hiccups or Singultus is the involuntary spasms of the diaphragm and intercostal muscles with inspiration followed by abrupt closure of of the glottis. It is a reflex arc between your brain, phrenic, vagus and sympathetic nerve, and motor fibers to diaphragm. In your case gasric distention from coughing is most likely cause. Expect resolution when cough resolves.
