A member asked:

Can statins (lipitor and crestor specifically) cause changes in taste? many foods (either acidic foods or certain proteins, i can't isolate it) that i once enjoyed are distasteful. other foods taste normal. the statins are the only consistent change.

Dysgeuzia: While possible, it would be uncommon for statins to cause your dysgeuzia or taste alteration. That can be easily tested with your prescriber’s permission by stopping taking statin for couple of weeks. Would rather recommend starting with an oral exam either with your dentist or PCP. I suspect your condition reflects early symptoms of a different medical condition. Watch your weight as well.
