For most people: For normal, healthy people, walking a half an hour once or twice a day is fine. Reasons otherwise might include: medical conditions in which walking a distance worsens symptoms (such as hypoxic lung disease, or certain types of arthritis in which walking worsens the joints), environmental issues (like air pollution or pollen), social issues (like high crime areas), etc...
