Unclear exactly : While the exact time frame is unclear, it can take 2-3 months for hormonal levels to normalize after stopping birth control meds. It is the increase of circulating hormones from birth control meds that can cause an increase in clotting factors, thus leading to clots. I would consider a patient to still be at risk if periods have not resumed.
