Doctor can examine: "Painful lesion" means different things to different people. It has little meaning without details. If a person is talking about a boil... boils come in many sizes, such as 1/4 of an inch up to more than an inch. They can be anywhere on the body. In general, a superficial one takes 2-3 days to come to a head, but a doctor should check it out if there is any worry, or if the boil isn't a tiny one.
