Doctor can evaluate: Many things in life are possible, but heart rates above the 100's usually mean something is wrong. Teens and adults with some dehydration due to minor illnesses, such as stomach flu, can get high heart rates. Fever comes with shakes and high heart rates, if there is infection like influenza, etc... For a guy in his 40's, his doctor can check the heart and lungs to see if anything bad is happening.
