Severe pain = ER: "Severe pain" in anyone is an emergency unless the pain has already been diagnosed and is being treated now. It is an emergency because people in pain do suffer, and we want to decrease the suffering or stop it. Also, pain is a symptom caused by something that probably is damaging to the body. The only way to tell if there is damage going on is to have a doctor (likely the ER) evaluate.

Emergency: Your son most likely has renal disease, including an infection as a possible cause. Please see the Emergency department right away for additional testing and treatment.
