Staph: Staphylococus, pseudomonas and proteus bacteria are normal ear canal inhabitants. Some methicillin staph carriers have it in their ear canals

Where specifically ?: A percentage of humans are known to carry staph on their skin surfaces starting as early as a few hours after birth. The ear canal can support this, although the nose is a more common reservoir.The middle ear space is usually sterile. If there is a hole in the eardrum or germs enter from the throat via the Eustachian tube the middle ear can be contaminated.
