A member asked:

How fast after exposure to high risk hpv is the hpv detectable in a screening test? if i contracted the virus at some point and 2 or 4 weeks later i get my screening. is it then possible the virus is not yet detectable at that point?

HPV diagnosis: Negative at 2-4 weeks won't mean very much. It can take several months, even a year or more for HPV to be detectable. But it's usually not possible to know when and from whom a particular HPV infection was acquired. Even if positive, it won't necessarily be from the exposure you are concerned about. Fortunately, most HPV causes no symptoms or disease. If not yet vaccinated, discuss w/ your doctor.
