I have had very low energy levels and am very stressed so a friend recommended that i try taking vit b supplements. is at a problem to take them without going to a doctor first.

No problem: B vitamins are water-soluble - so they don't usually build up significantly in your system. If you aren't deficient in once of the B vitamins - then B complex supplements might not make a significant difference. However, you don't need to see a doctor before a trial of B vitamins.
