A member asked:

I know taking birth control later than usual time can cause spotting. can taking it a few hours earlier than usual cause spotting too? thanks

A doctor has provided 1 answer

"spotting" with bcp: Low dose oral contraception is sensitive to even small periods of time over 24 hours from the last "active" pill. "Spotting" associated with taking an active pill less than 24 hours after the previous one is unusual, and may be related to an earlier time when one was taken "late", or bleeding after sexual relations from irritation of the cervix.
