Congestion: Adenovirus is the most common cause for viral conjunctivits. However, typically is does not cause swollen lymph nodes or chest congestion. The matted eyes are more likely bacterial and if upper respirtatory congestion and adenopathy associated with the problem then a mycoplasam infection likely.
