ARS symptoms: Lymph node enlargement alone almost never is due to HIV -- symptoms of acute retroviral syndrome (ARS, i.e. initial HIV infection) typically include a combination of sore throat, fever, lymph node enlargements, and often skin rash. Onset of ARS is no sooner than 7 days after exposure, usually 10-20 days. Get tested if concerned or uncertain; do not rely on symptoms to judge possible new HIV.
