Obstetrician: Severe abdominal pain in a pregnant woman is very concerning and warrants a prompt examination by her obstetrician. After this assessment, if deemed advisable, referral can be made to a general surgeon or gastroenterologist depending upon the findings if the obstetrician feels the symptoms are not pregnancy related. Any testing or treatment should be run by the obstetrician,however.
