"late period" ?s: At 44, a delayed onset of menstruation is more likely due to delayed ovulation, as ovarian follicles require more stimulation to reach ovulatory capacity. The stimulation required varies, but once achieved cycles can again become somewhat "regular". This phenomenon is what could be called "pre-menopausal", and pregnancy is statistically a (very) rare reason for delays in menses.
