Blood glucose: A nonfasting blood glucose is not helpful in determing if you have an problem. Take your blood glucose fasting which is typically 8 to 10 hours from last meal. Most people do this first thing in the morning. If greater than 100 then you have a concern.

NORMAL: It is much more informative to get a blood sugar 2 hours after eating!!!! This is a better test than fasting. HOW LONG since you last had food or drink? What did you consume? How much? A1C is much better and does not require fasting.

Agree with Dr. H: It is unlikely that a non-fasting glucose of 110 is of immediate concern. However, if you are going to repeat the test do it after fasting for at least 8 hours. You could get a blood test for A1C that can be done on a random blood sample and does not require fasting. Better yet, get both tests.
