A member asked:

Should a child over 12 be prescribed anti virals if chicken pox is severe over 9 days with photo sensitivity ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Seldom worth it: Any benefit for anti-virals in chickenpox would be during the first days of an outbreak. By nine days out there is little to no viral activity. By then you are dealing with the systemic inflammation or consequences of the illness.
