Cast: The kidney consists of millions of filtering units called glomeruli. They look like a cup connected to a tube under the microscope. When you see a cast under the microscope, it is usually consistent with some pathology to the glomerulus. The casts form from debris (red blood cells, epithelial cells, protein) in the tubes. These casts then break off and show in the urine.
