Commonly, pain at the side of the hip is a soft-tissue pain, or bursitis. Anti-inflammatories like advil, ibuprofen, or aleve can help, as can stretching. PT can help. Sometimes, pain at the side of the hip can have a different source, and may be referred pain. If it persists, evaluation by a physician is worthwhile.
