Surfaces & person: Staph bacteria can spread via contaminated surfaces & from person to person. A carrier can carry staph bacteria from one area of the body to another, or pass it to other people, with dirty hands or fingernails. Person to person spread can also occur when people with skin infections share personal things such as door handles, remotes, bed linens, towels, or clothing.
